Perks Program brings in over 200 newbies for Library Card Sign-up Month.
Every September we receive the call to celebrate National Library Card Sign-up Month, and this year we decided to go ALL IN. The theme, “One Card, Endless Possibilities,” summed up what HCLS strives to be perfectly, and we knew our local business partners would agree. So, to encourage new signups and bring even more value to existing library cardholders, 15 organizations agreed to take part in our first month-long Library Perks Program. Here’s how it went.
Billboards went up on Highway 90 and 603 in Hancock County announcing our part in this national campaign.
Starting September 1, partner businesses were promoted on our social media channels and in a booklet at each branch announcing the perks that patrons could enjoy during the month by showing their library card at the point of purchase.
Library staff participated in a friendly system-wide sign-up contest, taking and sharing photos of our new HCLS members in a fun photo frame.
We posted up at local outreach events like 2nd Saturday at The Arts and Hancock Education Foundation’s inaugural Homecoming Parade, sharing HCLS swag and signing up new patrons eager to take part in our Perks Program and the year-round services the library provides for free. One new patron told us he plans to use the computers and wi-fi at his local branch to come out of retirement and secure employment. Another said they were interested in everything Libby has to offer. And still another said she was signing up to check out items for when her grandchildren come to visit.
In all we welcomed 239 new members to HCLS during the month of September!
And then of course we got folks who were thrilled to hear that during National Library Card Sign-up Month their library card also scored them free queso from Barracuda Taco Stand, a discount on their morning brew from Coffee Culture, savings at Mockingbird Café, Dempseys, Coastal Hardware, and more! Scroll down for a complete list of this year’s partners, and a form to enter your organization in future promotional events.
